About Us

Team Tissue is a student-led, four year interdisciplinary undergraduate research team within the Gemstone Honors Program at University of Maryland College Park. Our team is comprised of sophomore students a broad range of subjects such as bioengineering, biochemistry, mechanical engineering, and history. Under the mentorship of Dr.Lex Schultheis, Research Professor at the Fischell Department of Bioengineering, Team Tissue aims to improve vascularity in 3D bio-printed tissue through cryogenic scaffolds composed of fibrin, collagen, and sodium alginate.
